Mirror neuron framework yields representations for robot interaction

چکیده
Common coding is a functional principle that underlies the mirror neuron paradigm. It insures actual parity between perception and action, since the perceived and performed actions are equivalently and simultaneously represented within the mirror neuron system. Based on the parity of this representation we show how the mirror neuron system may facilitate the interaction between two robots. Synchronization between neuron groups in different structures of the mirror neuron system are on the basis of the interaction behavior. The robotic simulation is used to illustrate several interactions. The resulting synchronization and turn taking behaviors show the potential of the mirror neuron paradigm for designing of socially meaningful behaviors. & 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Associative Neural Models for Biomimetic Multi- Modal Learning in a Mirror Neuron-based Robot
By using neurocognitive evidence on mirror neuron system concepts the MirrorBot project has developed neural models for intelligent robot behaviour. These models employ diverse learning approaches such as reinforcement learning, self-organisation and associative learning to perform cognitive robotic operations such as language grounding in actions, object recognition, localisation and docking. ...
متن کاملTowards multimodal neural robot learning
Learning by multimodal observation of vision and language offers a potentially powerful paradigm for robot learning. Recent experiments have shown that ‘mirror’ neurons are activated when an action is being performed, perceived, or verbally referred to. Different input modalities are processed by distributed cortical neuron ensembles for leg, arm and head actions. In this overview paper we cons...
متن کاملTowards Robot Self-consciousness (I): Brain-Inspired Robot Mirror Neuron System Model and Its Application in Mirror Self-recognition
Mirror Self-Recognition is a well accepted test to identify whether an animal is with self-consciousness. Mirror neuron system is believed to be one of the most important biological foundation for Mirror Self-Recognition. Inspired by the biological mirror neuron system of the mammalian brain, we propose a Brain-inspired Robot Mirror Neuron System Model (Robot-MNS-Model) and we apply it to human...
متن کاملEEG evidence for mirror neuron activity during the observation of human and robot actions: Toward an analysis of the human qualities of interactive robots
The current study investigated the properties of stimuli that lead to the activation of the human mirror neuron system, with an emphasis on those that are critically relevant for the perception of humanoid robots. Results suggest that robot actions, even those without objects, may activate the human mirror neuron system. Additionally, both volitional and nonvolitional human actions also appear ...
متن کاملTowards Integrating Learning by Demonstration and Learning by Instruction in a Multimodal Robot
Learning by demonstration and learning by instruction offers a potentially more powerful paradigm than programming robots directly for specific tasks. Learning in humans or primates substantially benefits from demonstration of actions or instruction by language in the appropriate context and there is initial neurocognitive cortical evidence for such processes. Cortical assemblies have been iden...
